Almost every new client asks me the same three questions before their first session. Will I have to talk about painful things? Do I need to prepare anything? And, quietly, at the end: what if I do not feel anything?
These are wonderful questions, and they deserve honest answers. So here is exactly what a first Emotion Code session with me looks like, from the moment you book to the days that follow.
Before your session: there is nothing to prepare
Truly. You do not need to write anything down, gather your history, or decide what to work on. Your subconscious already holds a perfect record of every experience you have had, and it knows exactly what is ready to be released first.
Booking takes about a minute through my online calendar. Sessions are held online, so you can be anywhere in the world. All you need is:
- A quiet, comfortable spot where you will not be interrupted
- A glass of water nearby
- Thirty minutes for yourself, which may be the hardest part for some of us
Some clients like to set a loose intention, such as "I would like to feel less anxious" or "I want to work on my Heart-Wall." That is welcome but entirely optional. Your body leads this work, not your planning.
During your session: gentle, quiet, and surprisingly relaxing
A standard session lasts about 30 minutes. Here is how it unfolds.
1. We connect and settle in
We begin with a warm hello and a brief chat about how you have been feeling. A sentence or two is plenty. You never need to retell painful stories or explain your past, because we will not be working through your conscious memory at all.
2. I connect with your subconscious
Using gentle muscle testing, I ask your subconscious simple yes and no questions. Muscle testing works a little like a lie detector for the body: the body responds strongly to truth and weakly to falsehood. Through this quiet conversation, your subconscious points us to the first emotion that is ready to release.
3. We identify each trapped emotion
Working with the Emotion Code chart, we narrow down the exact emotion, such as grief, resentment, or fear, and when it became trapped. Clients are often amazed at how precisely these findings land. "That was the year my father passed" is the kind of quiet recognition I hear often.
4. The emotion is released
Each identified emotion is released using magnetic energy passed over the governing meridian, the body's central energy pathway. The release itself takes seconds and feels like nothing at all, or like a soft exhale. In a first session we typically release five to ten trapped emotions, at whatever pace your body sets.
Throughout all of this, your only job is to relax. Many clients sit with a cup of tea. Some close their eyes. More than a few have told me it is the calmest half hour of their week.
After your session: the gentle processing period
Once we finish, your body begins a processing period that usually lasts one to two days. Think of it as your system quietly reorganising itself around the space that has opened up.
During this time, people experience release in different ways:
- Lightness. The most common report. A weight you did not know you were carrying is simply gone.
- Deep rest. Many clients sleep more soundly than they have in months. One client in Brazil told me it was the first night in ages she slept straight through.
- Soft emotions surfacing. Occasionally an echo of the released feeling drifts up before settling. This is normal, brief, and a good sign that things are moving.
- Subtle shifts over days. Some notice nothing immediately, then realise a week later that an old trigger has stopped firing.
Simple aftercare
Nothing complicated is required, but these help the process along:
- Drink plenty of water for the next day or two
- Rest a little more than usual if you feel like it
- Be gentle with yourself, the way you would after a massage
How many sessions will you need?
It depends on what we are working on. Some concerns shift noticeably after a single session. Releasing a Heart-Wall, which is a wall of trapped emotions around the heart, usually takes three to five sessions, because the layers release in the order your system feels safe with.
There is never pressure to book a package or commit ahead. Each session stands on its own, and your own experience will tell you what feels right.
What if you are skeptical?
Come anyway, exactly as you are. Skepticism does not block the work, because we are not relying on your conscious beliefs. Some of my most moved clients arrived as gentle doubters, curious enough to try one session. All I ask is an open window, not an open door.
And if you cannot attend in person or even by video, distance is genuinely no barrier. I regularly work with clients on the other side of the world. You can read exactly how in my guide to remote sessions.
